Take a Leaf

Barbara Williams

Have you ever picked up or studied a leaf, wishing you could create an artwork with its shape, colour, texture or fragility?

In this workshop you will be exploring and developing techniques to produce a final 3D sculpture of leaves. We will take a journey of discovering free motion stitching, textures and fibres while you create your own journal building up your techniques and samples for future reference. You will learn how to use your sewing machine with a darning foot for free motion sewing and play with colours and textures in thread and fibre. You will learn how to create an installation and manipulate your leaves into 3D shapes.

Once you have the skills you will be working on your own 3D leaf sculpture that can be presented vertically or flat. You will work at your own pace and encouraged to explore, to experiment and to have fun. The techniques learnt by the end of the workshop can be extended to other concepts and installations. The only limitation is your imagination.

You are encouraged to bring your own found leaves to the workshop.

Experience with using a sewing machine is a requirement.
